Breast Diseases

Various benign diseases that occur in the breast, which should be properly recognized and treated.

Reasons for breast benign disease

Do you know why breast lumps occur?

If the lump is caused by abnormal proliferation of cells in the breast, it means that there is a problem in the body that caused the lump.
It's important to not only get rid of the lump, but also to get to the bottom of what caused it so that it doesn't recur and spread.

Types of Benign Breast Conditions

01. Fibroadenoma

This is a relatively common benign tumor that often occurs in young women in their 20s and 30s in the form of a firm lump that is rounded to the touch, has a clear boundary with surrounding tissue, and is fluid, meaning it moves when touched. It is also characterized by little pain and a border on the surface of the breast.

02. Papilloma

A single or isolated growth around the nipple, often smaller than 1 cm, but sometimes as large as 4 to 5 cm. It is especially common around menopause for single papillomas, while multiple papillomas occur in younger women, and multiple peripheral papillomas are known to be more likely to develop breast cancer than single papillomas.

03. Breast pain

One of the most common breast symptoms that bring women to the doctor, women with breast pain should be examined to rule out the possibility that the pain is caused by breast disease, but 80-90% of women with breast pain who do not have a lump after examination are often treated for symptoms related to female hormones and often resolve spontaneously with a doctor's explanation.

04. Lobular tumors

Lobular tumors are classified as benign, borderline, or malignant based on microscopic findings; they have a very similar appearance to fibroadenomas, which can be difficult to differentiate, and they tend to grow very rapidly compared to fibroadenomas and have frequent local recurrences after excision.

05. Breast cyst

a firm, circular watery sac in the breast tissue, common in women in their late 20s to pre-menopausal years who have abundant breast tissue; it is caused by a blockage in the milk ducts that causes them to swell like a balloon and collect fluid.

06. Lumps

Lumps, lumps, lumps, masses, masses, and tumors in the breast are collectively referred to as breast nodules. They can be broadly categorized into cystic lumps (watery lumps) and solid lumps (hard lumps), and their diagnosis and treatment varies depending on their appearance.

07. Mastitis

Inflammation of the breast due to a number of causes, mostly affecting women between the ages of 18 and 50. It is most often seen in women with diabetes or other causes where the body's resistance is reduced and a bacterial infection enters through the nipple.

Treatment of Benign Breast Conditions

Most benign conditions do not require any specific treatment and are recommended to be monitored.
However, papillomas or lobular tumors that have a high risk of cancer should be surgically removed.
Removal may also be necessary if the tumor is larger than 2 cm in size,
if it continues to grow, or if you have a family history of breast cancer.
Tumors can be removed by either vacuum aspiration-assisted lumpectomy or incisional surgery,
with incisional removal being the preferred method for tumors larger than 5 cm or if microcalcifications are observed.
